The Greek Alphabet

greek alphabet on chalkboard

The Greek alphabet contains 24 letters and was the first writing system to include vowels, making it easier to read and write compared to earlier scripts like Phoenician. Fun fact: the English word “alphabet” comes directly from the first two Greek letters, alpha (α) and beta (β). Greek letters like pi (π) and sigma (Σ) continue to appear in modern areas such as mathematics, science, and fraternity names.
